Womin African Alliance and GDA Photobook launch

They say one image is worth a thousand words. This is what is captured in the GDA/Womin photobook titled: “In the embrace of the Earth” and launched today in a zoom meeting, bringing together some Baka indigenous people’s representatives from Mintom and also local community representatives impacted by some of the large-scale extractive industries operating in Cameroon.

The photobook is a collection of pictures reflecting the daily activities of the Baka indigenous community within their forest environment. These images speak out to the viewer about the importance of the forest to the subjects in view, as their joys and livelihoods are exposed in their actions and facial expressions.

The timing of the launch has been calibrated to fit within the framework of the International Forest Day to be commemorated on Saturday 21 March. The participants seized this moment to express their worries with regard to the marginal attitudes projected by the so-called development project owners on their plight as well as their rights to manage their forest environments. A worry that is relayed by Womin and GDA women in their “commitment to advancing African ecofeminist development alternatives rooted in the experiences and the knowledge of African women, who stand at the forefront of a movement towards a just future for all forms of life”.

Like and comment on the photobook launch and let us get your views on the marginalization of Indigenous peoples and Local communities in the management of their forest resources which constitute the basis of their livelihoods.
