ASBABUK- BACUDA: empowering the indigenous populations

Soa, a town in the suburbs of the city of Yaounde, goes down in the history of the indigenous people of Cameroon as the venue for the launching of the SEGPAL Project . This project aims to secure and ensure the protection of indigenous lands from the rather unjust expropriations, deprivations and abuse exerted by the administration, multinational holdings and some local communities showing little or no concern for their  rights.

The project is to be financed by Tenure Facility and to be supervised by the Green Development Advocates (GDA) - to acting as the fiscal sponsor. GDA is expected to provide the necessary field support to the two associations (ASBABUK and BAKUDA) who now look forward to working in synergy to see their dream come true.

The SEGPAL Project is a translation of words into actions and a demonstration of the funders’ determination to see the local populations getting involved in addressing issues directly affecting them rather than passing through the administration whose perspectives generally differ to an extent from that of the populations concerned.

The Bagyelli situated in the South region of Cameroon and the Baka found in the East are now hopeful that the funding would go a long to advance their cause especially as they are directly involved in the management of the finances.
